Dear Friends,
In Kitsap County, hope is not abstract—it is food on the table, a warm shower, clean clothing, mental health support, and the dignity of knowing someone cares.
Recently, a mother came to our free food market. She didn’t ask for groceries or money—she asked for water. Her service had been shut off, and she had a baby who needed formula. A volunteer found her a container of water. She left with tears in her eyes, carrying not just water, but the reassurance that her community would not let her face hardship alone.
The need has never been greater. Families struggle with food, shelter, health care, and utilities. The recent government shutdown revealed how fragile many households are—workers missed paychecks, benefits disappeared, cupboards went bare. Food banks stepped in, just as we always do for neighbors whose wages cannot keep pace with rising costs.
Housing costs in Kitsap have doubled over the past decade, while wages have risen only modestly. Groceries, utilities, and health care continue to climb. This affordability crisis is not going away. Yet in the face of these challenges, we choose hope: hope that no child will go to bed hungry, hope that no parent will have to choose between rent and medicine, hope that dignity will be a promise, not a privilege.
Looking ahead, Fishline is launching a mobile food market to bring fresh groceries directly into neighborhoods, paired with case management to meet people where they are. We are also working with coalitions to address housing solutions and advocating for systemic change to make affordability a reality.
This journey belongs to all of us. Together, we can turn crisis into community. Together, we can make Kitsap a place where everyone thrives. Together, we can turn hope into reality. Thank you for making this journey possible.
With gratitude,
