Fishline Status Update: Message from the Executive Director

News

Please visit the follow links for additional local information: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information Links & Resources, Kitsap County County Emergency Operations Center Links & Resources

The past two weeks have been a crazy time at Fishline, where we experienced our first positive case of COVID-19 in the Market.  We are proud of our track record over the past eleven months, where we served thousands of community members during a pandemic, and remained COVID free.

In response to notification of a positive test, we immediately closed our facilities and contacted all volunteers who may have been exposed and consulted the Kitsap Health Department and ensured that we were following the CDC guidelines.

Our friends at ServPro showed up on a moment’s notice to deep clean all of our facilities. We want to send out a special thank you to the thirty-two new volunteers and many of our regular volunteers who answered the call for help. These super heroes helped feed close to 400 families this past week!

We worried about our volunteers and co-workers, who were in quarantine, hoping that none of them would get sick. The good news is no one did. Our staff have all tested negative for COVID-19 and we have heard the same from many of our volunteers who may have been exposed.

The volunteer who contracted COVID is on the mend, and we wish them a speedy recovery.

To alleviate future outbreaks, we have decided to update some of our policies. Here are the changes:

  • To prevent cross contamination:  All Fishline Volunteers will be asked to volunteer at only one program and one shift per week. (for example; only at Second Season or only in the Market).
  • There will be a 15-minute window between shift changes to reduce exposure. Please be prepared to leave your shift on time, unless it is as the end of the day.
  • It is recommended to double up on masks to reduce exposure.
  • We are updating contact information for all volunteers and expect them to complete a volunteer Emergency Contact Form and return it to the Volunteer Manager by February 15, 2021.

Fishline COVID-19 Policies:

  • You are required to wear a mask at all times and practice mandated six feet social distance guidelines.
  • Volunteers must sign a waiver and check your temperature at the beginning of each shift.
  • Review/sign and adhere to our COVID-19 Safety and Health Guidelines for Volunteers
  • We ask volunteers who may be at risk or not feeling well to stay home and take care of themselves. If you need to cancel or change your shift, email: Volunteer@fishlinehelps.org.
  • We strongly recommend those with an underlying medical health condition (visit the CDC for more information.) not to volunteer at this time.
  • According to the CDC and Kitsap Health department guidelines quarantining for 14 days is the safest option if you have been exposed someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. Those who volunteered on 1/12, 1/14 and/or on 1/19 are asked to quarantine for 14 days and to contact your provider for additional guidance.

SUBJECT: Fishline Market Reopening, Volunteers Urgently Needed

Good evening, all,

The Fishline Market team would like to inform our volunteers that we received notification that a volunteer tested positive for Covid-19, after working in our downstairs Market for several days. Fishline is taking immense precautions to ensure the safety of our volunteers, staff, and clients. We closed the Fishline campus on Wednesday, 1/20/21 for professional sanitization and cleaning. We have also begun to create daily shifts for volunteers to avoid volunteers working on overlapping days and/or within overlapping programs. Our market staff (Market Manager and Market Assistant) are taking precautions by getting tested for Covid-19 and will return to the market after receiving a negative result.

Fishline will re-open tomorrow, Thursday, January 21, 2021, and we need your support to run the market. If you were not onsite on January 12th, 14th, and/or 19th, please review the dates below and let our Volunteer Manager know as soon as possible if you are willing and able to help us get food to our clients!

Volunteers are needed on the following days, THIS WEEK AND NEXT:

  • Thursday, 1/21
  • Friday, 1/22
  • Tuesday, 1/26
  • Thursday, 1/28

The following shifts are needed. Please visit our volunteer page for more information regarding the positions.

  • 4 volunteers from 8:00am – 11:30am to sort produce, bread, assemble market delivery bags
  • 4 volunteers from 11:45am – 4:15pm to distribute food at the door/assemble bags for the next day
  • 2 volunteers from 4:30pm – 6:00pm to assist with clean up and preparation for the next day’s food distribution (Thursday, 1/21 only)
  • 2 drivers, 6:30am – 8:30am
  • 3 market delivery drivers, 11:00am – 1:00pm

We know these are uncertain times, and we appreciate your continued support of our work. We could not serve the needs of the community without our volunteers. Please call or email our Volunteer Manager at 360-208-0102 to sign up for a volunteer shift and/or if you have any questions.

Gratefully,

Laura Olson, Fishline Market Manager

Elijah Lonewolf, Fishline Market Assistant

Dear Staff, Clients, and Volunteers,

Please be advised that Fishline was notified that a volunteer who worked in the Market on January 12th, 14th, and 19th has tested positive for COVID-19. The volunteer notified Fishline’s Volunteer Manager the afternoon of January 19th that they were exhibiting symptoms while working in the Market. As an immediate response to protect the health and safety of our workforce, we are notifying all employees, clients, volunteers and partner agencies that we are temporarily shutting down the Market and CSC for professional cleaning. We are also taking the following steps:

  • Staff will be working remotely
  • Professional sanitization of all Fishline campus buildings and vehicles
  • All Market food pickup and Home Deliveries will be postponed until Thursday, January 21, 2021.
  • Market Staff (Fishline’s Market Manager, Volunteer Manager, and Market Assistant) will undergo testing as soon as possible and will work remotely until negative results are confirmed.
  • We will be closing the Fresh Start Shower program on Wednesday, January 20th. Fresh Start will reopen on Friday, January 22nd

  • If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Follow all recommendations provided by the CDC here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/index.html.

If you, or someone in your household, exhibits COVID-19 related symptoms, please notify the Volunteer Manager or Executive Director immediately, so that we may track any potential outbreaks within our organization.  All such personal information will remain confidential.
